Police Catch Two Purse Snatching Robbers as they Attempt to Flee the Scene

At about 12:24 am on Saturday, November 26, 2011, officers from Area E-18 (Hyde Park) responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress in the area of 19 Massasoit Street in Mattapan. While en route to the call, officers learned that two victims had been robbed and that the suspects were seen fleeing the area in a small red car. Suspects were described as a light skinned black male wearing a black hat and jacket and a light skinned black female wearing a green or black sweatshirt and blue jeans. According to the victims, they were walking in the area of Massasoit and River Streets when the suspects approached them from behind, struck both victims and stole one of their purses.

In close proximity to the crime, responding officers observed a motor vehicle that matched the description of the car seen leaving the area. Consequently, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the car. When the car stopped, officers observed one of the occupants quickly exit the motor vehicle in an effort to make good his escape. When the suspect exited the car, officers noted that the suspect was carrying a black and white purse in his hands. After a foot pursuit, officers were able to catch up to and apprehend the suspect. While running behind the suspect, officers observed the suspect discard the purse he was carrying. Officers were able to recover the purse and return it to the victim.

Officers arrested Nathaniel Webster, 32, of Boston and Tameika Dunbar, 29, of Stoughton and charged both with Unarmed Robbery, Assault and Battery and Resisting Arrest.

Scam Alert: Boston Police Special Investigations Unit Warn Local Law Firms of Counterfeit Check Scam

The Boston Police Special Investigations Unit is warning local law firms of a scam that has recently attempted to victimize six local companies.

Detectives have learned that an entity posing as an architectural firm mails a counterfeit check in excess of $90,000 to a law firm. The check is accompanied by a request from the architectural firm asking the law firm to assist them with a settlement agreement. The correspondence further requests that the law firm deposit the check then forward the appropriate amount of the settlement to the recipient and subtract their legal fee.

This is a scam. The checks are fraudulent.

If your law firm receives similar correspondence, do not deposit the check. In addition, call the Boston Police Special Investigations Unit for assistance at 617-343-5922.

INFORMATION WANTED: Detectives Renew Request for Information Regarding 2009 Double Homicide

Detectives from the Boston Police Homicide Unit are renewing their request to the community for assistance in solving the 2009 double homicide of 33 year old Anthony Glover and 25 year old Paul Roberson, both of Taunton.

Investigators continue their dogged pursuit of the person or persons responsible for this violent act. Detectives have spent countless hours interviewing people with a connection to one or both of the victims, analyzing forensic evidence recovered from the crime scene, and pursuing leads that might lead to the identification the party or parties involved. In spite of the efforts made, the detectives have reached a point in the investigation where additional information is needed to help recreate the final hours of the victims’ prior to their deaths. It is believed that multiple people may have seen or known about the actions taken by both the victims and suspects leading up to their demise.

On Monday, August 3, 2009 at about 9:00 PM, Anthony Glover was at his home in Taunton with his wife. She was preparing dinner and it was almost ready when Anthony took a phone call from his friend, Paul Roberson, who asked him to take a ride with him. Anthony told her that he would only be gone a short while. Anthony’s wife recalls that she was certain that he was only going to be gone for a short time and expected him back at some point later that evening.

Detectives believe that Anthony and Paul left Taunton sometime shortly after 9:00 PM. It is believed that they traveled to the Hyde Park section of Boston. The last known phone contact between Paul Roberson’s girlfriend and Paul took place at about 10:30 PM on that date. She too expected that Paul would be returning to their Taunton home some time later that evening. It is believed that the victims were in the Boston area at the time of the call, possibly at a bar. Although it is not known what the exact purpose of the trip was, it is believed that they intended to meet one or more people in that area.

On Friday, August 7, 2009 at about 4:05 PM, officers responded to a radio call to investigate a motor vehicle in a parking lot next to 175 Clare Avenue in Hyde Park. When officers arrived, they observed a black Toyota Camry parked in the corner of the parking lot. Inside of the vehicle, officers observed the bodies of two black males seated in the front seats. Both victims were deceased and were pronounced on scene by Boston EMS. Based on the condition of the bodies, it appeared that they had been inside of the vehicle for multiple days.

The deceased victims were determined to be Anthony Glover and Paul Roberson, who had both been missing for four days. The crime scene within the vehicle as well as the area around the car was processed for forensic evidence by criminalists from the Boston Police Crime Lab and the Latent Print Unit. After autopsies, the medical examiner ruled the manner of death for both victims to be homicide.

Homicide Sergeant Detective Paul McLaughlin stated, “Like so many families who have lost a loved one to violence, the families of Anthony and Paul face a daily struggle and desire for answers. We know that there are people out there who know what happened to them.” Sergeant Detective McLaughlin added, “We are asking anyone with information to come forward, even anonymously, and help us to provide their families with some answers to their questions and to bring some justice to the victims.”
