Community Alert: Boston Police Warn Fans of 2012 NCAA East Regional Finals Counterfeit Tickets

During the 2012 NCAA East Regional Finals, Boston Police would like to take this opportunity to remind fans to be wary of purchasing counterfeit tickets. Fans who purchase tickets from a secondary source are taking a chance.

We would like to encourage fans to only buy tickets from authorized ticket agencies. Purchasing from other sources is done at the buyer’s risk. Officers want to proactively curb such activity and encourage buyers to only purchase from official vendors.

The department suggests that fans guarantee authenticity by purchasing tickets through an official website, Ticketmaster.com, in person at the TD Garden Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet.

Purchasing via other methods creates the potential for possessing either an invalid or counterfeit ticket. Individuals attempting to gain admission using fraudulent tickets will be evicted from the building and face the possibility of arrest.

On March 22, 2012, officers conducting a walking beat in the area of TD Garden, arrested 24 year old Cherie Devotie of New York and 32 year old Equcon Milling of New Jersey for attempting to sell counterfeit tickets to the NCAA basketball game at TD Garden. Officers observed both suspects in possession of multiple tickets. Officers confiscated the tickets after confirming with Garden officials that the tickets were counterfeit. Both suspects were placed under arrest at that time.

If any community members have information about the selling of counterfeit tickets, you are urged to contact District A-1 detectives at (617) 343-4248. Individuals wishing to provide information anonymously may do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department will stringently protect your identity.

The Boston Police Academy Recruit Class 51-12 Reaches Important Milestone (See Attached Images)

Recently the Boston Police Academy Recruit Class 51-12 reached an important milestone marked with an initial Guidon presentation. The Guidon presented to the recruits was the white Guidon. This is considered their first phase Guidon. The colors of the first phase Guidon are white with blue lettering. It has the opposite colors of the true class Guidon, which is blue with white lettering. The true Guidon will also bear the Recruit class number. When a Recruit class receives its white Guidon, it is the first official recognition that their platoon is beginning to come together as a class. The first phase of bonding and teamwork is recognized.

The individual who carries the Guidon is the “guide”. This recruit will carry the Guidon in the front of the Recruit formation for everyone to see. The platoon falls into formation and uses the Guidon as their rallying point.

At this time, the platoon will continue to work towards their true class Guidon, blue with white lettering bearing their Recruit class number. That Guidon will represent the class’ transformation from a group of individuals to a cohesive, motivated and team-oriented platoon. Their class Guidon will eventually hang in the corridors of the Academy.

Every Boston Police Recruit class since 1985 has a class Guidon hanging in the Police Academy hall. The class Guidon instills a sense of pride and tradition, and provides the class with a sense of ownership. Upon graduation, the class Guidon will be retired and will hang alongside all of the others that came before, continuing the great tradition and history of the Boston Police Department.

Boston Police Academy Recruit Class 51-12 is expected to graduate in July 2012.

Public Safety Advisory Relative to Downtown Power Outage

Boston Police Remind Residents to Remain Respectful and Patient as Efforts are Made to Restore Power

While NStar goes about the business of restoring power to the areas affected by the transformer fire earlier this evening (March 13, 2012) in the area of 40 Dalton Street, the Boston Police Department has deployed and assigned additional officers to the areas that have been compromised by the outage. Clearly, visibility issues are a major concern. In the spirit of cooperation, community members are asked to check in on their neighbors, especially those that are elderly, and to also be respectful of all public and private properties. Additionally, building managers are being asked to monitor and check in on elevator traffic or usage in their buildings. Traffic signals have been impacted as well so motorists and pedestrians are asked to exercise high levels of caution and care while travelling or crossing streets in and around the city. In the event your phone service has been disrupted and you find yourself in need of immediate emergency assistance, community members are encouraged to seek out a uniformed officer or to pull a Fire Alarm Call Box.
