Boston Police Investigate Non-Fatal Shooting Incident on Harold Street in Roxbury: Detectives Seeking Witnesses

On January 27, 2012 at approximately 12:30pm, officers responded to a radio call for a person shot at 242 Harold Street in Roxbury. Upon arrival officers located at 20 year old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Brigham & Women’s Hospital and being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the male victim was traveling on a bicycle when struck by a vehicle and then shot by the vehicle’s occupants.

Boston Police detectives are seeking to locate the suspect vehicle and the occupants. The vehicle has been described as possibly a gray Prius. Detectives continue to gather additional information on this incident.

Boston Police Detectives Arrest Two 15 Year Old Suspects for Unarmed Robbery : Suspects Pushed Victim from Bicycle and Stole Victim’s Money

On January 19, 2012 about 11:09pm, an officer from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress on Lamartine Street next to Hoffman Street. Upon arrival officer spoke to the victim, who stated to the officer that he was riding his bicycle inbound along the southwest corridor park on Lamartine Street when he was approached by three males who pushed him off his bicycle. The victim stated that the one of the suspects assaulted him and took his money. The victim also stated the suspects fled on foot towards Hoffman Street. Victim explained to the officer that everything happened quickly and he was not able to recognize the assailants.

As a result of the investigation, officers determined the following suspect descriptions: three black males, between 18 to 20 years of age, wearing gray or black hoodies, dressed in black clothing and 5″09 to 5’11 feet tall.

Shortly after the incident, responding detectives observed three black males fitting the general description inside of a pizza shop located 304 Centre Street. Detectives approached the three males and each one of the males provided detectives with conflicting information as to where they were coming from. All three males agreed that they were in the pizza shop for about 10 minutes.

Detectives interviewed a witness who stated observing the three suspects, ages 15, 15 and 14, walking on the southwest corridor when they approached the victim riding on his bicycle. The witness stated that two of the juveniles, both 15, ordered the victim off his bicycle and robbed him of his money.

Detectives arrested the two 15 year old suspects for unarmed robbery. The 14 year old male was released to the custody of a relative.

JP Safe Street Team Partners With State Police to Nab Fugitive and Accomplice: Couple Embarked on Cross Country Attempt to Evade Authorities

On Wednesday January 18, 2012 at around 5:45pm, members of the E-13 Safe Street Team joined forces with the Mass State Police Violent Apprehension Unit to capture a known fugitive and his accomplice.

As a result of a lengthy investigation, officers conducted a traffic stop of a known fugitive at 87 Lamartine Street in Jamaica Plain. The suspect, Raymond Jeffreys, did not have a license to show to officers, but did state a false name to officers. One of the officers on the scene positively identified the suspect due to the distinctive and visible tear drop tattoos on both sides of his eyes. The suspect had an outstanding warrant out of Dorchester District Court for possession of drugs as well as a warrant for a felony parole violation. In addition, the suspect’s driver’s license is suspended/revoked and non-renewable.

A second suspect, Jacquelyn Lungelow, was placed under arrest due to the fact that she was harboring a fugitive. The suspect knew the fugitive (her boyfriend) had an outstanding parole warrant while both suspects had fled across the country from state to state to evade authorities.

Raymond Jeffreys, 24, of Worcester was arrested and charged for two warrants. Jacquelyn Lungelow, 23, of Jamaica Plain was arrested and charged with wit harboring a fugitive.

Boston Police Officers Arrest Suspect for Home Invasion in South End

On Sunday, January 15, 2012 at approximately 8:04pm, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a person with a knife at 10 Hammond Street.

On arrival, officers were met by the victim who stated the suspect was still on scene, but no longer had a knife. The victim stated to officers, while preparing dinner for guests, there was a knock on the door. The victim reports looking through the ‘peephole”, but not see anyone.  Officers were then informed that the victim opened the door to see who had been knocking.  At this point, the suspect forced his way through the partially opened door. Victim stated to officers that the suspect shoved the victim and when the four guests came to aid the victim, a struggle ensued. Officers did observe signs consistent with a struggle, overturned vases, broken glass, and a table knocked over. The victim stated to officers that the suspect successfully forced his way into the kitchen area, and then began throwing kitchen knives in their direction.

Victim complained to officers of shoulder pain, but declined medical attention on the scene. Officers were advised that the suspect is an acquaintance of the victim and is homeless.  The victim previously would allow the suspect into their apartment for short visits, but the arrangement did not work out and it clear to suspect he was no longer welcome.

The male suspect, Leonard Higginbottom, 47 of Boston was arrested and charged with Home Invasion, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife), and Armed Assault in a Dwelling.

Late Night Prowler Caught with the Goods

Early this morning around 12:01AM, officers from District E-5 (West Roxbury) responded to the area of 75 Garnett Rd. for a suspicious person  wearing all black walking up driveways and looking into cars.

Officers, knowing that there have been a few B&Es of cars in the area, immediately responded to the area. Once there, officers slowly approached the area of the call, and as they made their way from Weld St. to Garnett Rd. observed the silhouette of a person in the driveway of 79 Garnett Road. Officers got out of their car to further investigate when the person disappeared into the dark. Officers searched the dark back yards and within a short time located a male dressed all in black covered with mud in the back yard of 560 VFW Parkway. The suspect was stopped and detained and officers immediately noticed his pockets protruding from his pockets including a GPS and a large amount of coins causing the pockets to droop. The suspect told officers that he was only in the backyard because he had to urinate and then told them that he had been dropped off in the area by a friend who gave him the items in his pocket.

Officers then responded to the caller who reported seeing the suspect going from car to car looking in and specifically saw the suspect rummaging through a car at 79 Garnett Rd. using a flashlight. Officers were then able to look at the GPS in the suspect’s pocket and determined that it had a home address of 79 Garnett Road. The residents were then notified and positively identified the GPS.

The suspect, Dennis J. Winslow, 47 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle in the Night, and Receiving Stolen Property. Once arrested, officers recovered a number of scratch tickets from the suspect, coins totaling over $100.00, a watch and iPod.

Urinator Arrested for Watering Doorway

Early Sunday morning around 12:22AM, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to the intersection of Columbus Abe and Dartmouth St. for a person with a knife.

On arrival, officers were directed to a man who was walking down Dartmouth St. and told that he was the suspect. Officers pursued the identified male and stopped him. While the male was stopped, the victim walked up to officers’ location and stated, “He is the guy who pulled the knife on me!” The victim then went on to tell officers that he had just gotten off of work when he saw the suspect urinating in someone’s doorway. The victim confronted the suspect about his actions when the suspect pulled out a black folding knife, opened it, and waved it a slashing motion while approaching the victim.

The victim then summonsed the help of an acquaintance who called the police. The suspect at this time passed off the knife to another individual and walked away. The man to whom the knife was passed was stopped and the knife recovered.

The suspect, Michael Mack, 26 of Old Orchard Beach, ME was arrested and charged with Assault by Means of a dangerous Weapon.

Road Rage Suspects Arrested after Shooting at a Car

On Saturday, 1/7/12 around 3:27PM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of 280 Seaver St. in response to a ShotSpotter activation.  A short while later, officers responded to the area of 47 Lawrence Ave. for another ShotSpotter activation.

As a result of these two activations, officers located a victim who reported that he was stopped at the red light at the intersection of Blue Hill Ave. and Seaver St. waiting to make a left turn when the light turned green.  The victim reported that when the car in front of him failed to proceed when the light turned green, he sounded his horn to alert the driver that the light had turned green. The victim reported that as he and the driver at whom he had sounded his horn turned onto Seaver St. he and the occupants of the other car engaged in a verbal dispute. The victim reported that while he was engaged in the argument, the front passenger fired several shots at him through the open window striking his rear passenger door.

The victim stated that he fled the area and made his way toward Walnut Ave. where he again noticed the suspect motor vehicle parked with its headlights turned off. The victim reported that as he proceeded past the car, another shot was fired at his car which missed his car. The victim reported that he again fled the area and again encountered the suspect motor vehicle again while he was on Washington St. heading toward Columbia Road. This time, the victim attempted to catch up to the suspect motor vehicle to get a license plate but the suspect motor vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. The victim followed the suspect’s car to Lawrence Ave. in an attempt to get the plate but was again shot at by the suspects when their car came to a stop and the victim had nowhere to go.  Luckily, the victim was not struck and was able to get the suspect car’s plate number.

Based on information received, a witness observed the suspects’ car traveling at a high rate of speed on Dudley St. and then at 85 Southampton St. at the Mobil Gas Station. There, the witness approached the suspects’ car which was occupied by three individuals and instructed the occupants to remain in the car while he notified BPD Operations. The front passenger however fled from the car in a manner consistent with someone in possession of a gun.  

Officers responded to the area in response to the witness’ call and a short while later pulled into the South Bay Shopping mall parking lot in an ongoing effort to find the suspects and/or their car. As officers proceeded through the parking lot, they observed two individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions. Shortly after noticing the suspects, officers observed the described suspect car parked in front of the Target Store. The suspects were stopped and detained after officers observed spent shell casings in plain view inside the car.

The witnesses and victim were then brought to the location of the suspects where both were positively identified as the individuals who were ion the car when it fired upon the victim. The suspects, Antonio Vasquez, 25 of Roxbury and Joel R. Martinez, 19 of Roslindale were both arrested and charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Being an Armed Career Criminal and Discharging a Firearm within 500’ of a Dwelling. Suspect Vasquez was additionally charged with Possession of a Firearm Subsequent Offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked License, Operating to Endanger, Speeding and failure to Stop for Police Officers.

The gun charges were added after officers returned to the area of 85 Southampton Street the next day during the early morning hours and conducted a canvass of the area that the suspect had fled in when approached by the witness inside the gas station. There, officers recovered a loaded firearm in a nearby bush along the path that the suspect from the car had fled when the car was approached by the witness.

Off Duty Officer and Detail Officer Key to Capturing Armed Robbery Suspects

Around 1:12PM yesterday, an off duty officer was traveling in her personal car in the 200 block of Centre Street when she observed two young women and a young man surround another teen. The officer alerted by this action slowed down and observed the young man put his hands in the teen’s pocket and shortly thereafter take off inside the Heath Street development.

The officer quickly approached the victim who confirmed the officer’s suspicions that he had been robbed. The victim told the off duty officer that he had been robbed of his iPod after one of the suspects motioned like he had a gun and threatened to shoot the victim. The off duty officer immediately contacted the Operations Center, explained the circumstances and provided a description of the suspects. A broadcast was made of the incident along with a description of the suspects by the dispatcher. An officer working a detail nearby identified the male suspect and provided additional officers with an address for him. Officers responded to the address and there were met by an adult woman. Officers explained the circumstances and then asked for the suspect. The suspect was summonsed from another room in the house along with two young women.

The three were taken outside by officer where they were positively identified by the victim. Officers then arrested a 13 year old male juvenile, a 15 year old female juvenile, and a 12 year old female juvenile all from Jamaica Plain. All three suspects were charged with armed robbery.

Dog Walker Helps Officers Nab B&E Suspect

Yesterday afternoon around 2:08PM, officers from District E-5 (West Roxbury) were on patrol in the area of Glenham Street and Kingsland Road when they were flagged down by a witness who reported to them that a guy had just broken into her friend’s house.

Officers immediately jumped out of their car as the woman pointed them toward a male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt running through the back yard of a house on Kingsland Road. Officers pursued the suspect all the while giving him orders to stop. The suspect was caught on LaGrange Street after a brief pursuit where he continued to resist officers’ attempts to place him in handcuffs.

Once the suspect was secured, officers returned and spoke to the witness who flagged them down. The witness reported that she went to the victim’s house to walk their dog and encountered the suspect in the house with a bag. The suspect fled out of the door upon seeing the witness and was pursued by the witness until she came upon officers where officers took on the pursuit.  The witness directed officers along the path that she had pursued the suspect before she came upon the officers where they recovered the bag that the suspect had with stolen items from the house. The owners of the house responded to the scene and positively identified all the items that were stolen from their apartment.

The suspect, Terrence M. Kelley, 36 of West Roxbury was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering a Dwelling in the Daytime, Larceny from a Building, Knowingly Receiving Stolen Property, and Resisting Arrest.

Complicit Victim Leads Officers to Suspect

Around 12:05AM on January 2nd, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to 375 Blue Hill Ave. foe a woman requesting for police help stating that three males were after her.

On arrival, the victim approached officers and told them that she had been beat up by two black males and a black female inside the restaurant. The victim reported that she first went to a house on Howland Street to buy some crack. The victim reported that the door was answered by male who had a brief conversation with her and then took her phone from her. The victim reported that she left the house on Howland Street after they took her phone and was walking down Blue Hill Ave. when she realized that she was being followed by the man who had taken her phone along with another man and woman. According to the victim, upon realizing that she was being followed she fled into a restaurant on Blue Hill Ave. where the suspects followed her and the female suspect assaulted while asserting that she owed the male suspect money. The victim reported that the female suspect was pulled off of her by a witness after which she walked away.

Officers picked up the victim and drove her around the area to see if they could find the suspects after she told them that she would be able to identify the suspects if she saw them. While in the Grove Hall area, the victim pointed out to a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt with writing on it inside a convenience store and told officers that he was the one that took her phone. Officers entered the store and approached the suspect who was accompanied by two women and conducted a threshold inquiry. During the threshold inquiry, officers asked the suspect if he had a cell phone at which point he removed a cell phone from his pocket identical to the one which the victim had reported stolen from her.  The male suspect along with the phone was positively identified by the victim. The two females in the company of the suspect however were not identified as the ones who assaulted the victim other than one who was identified as being there during the assault.

The male suspect, Jabari Wilson, 18 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery.
