Quick Response Enables Officers to Arrest One in Connection to Death Investigation in the area of 24 Woodruff Way in Mattapan
At about 2:35am, on Sunday, February 17, 2013, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to an outside scene for shots fired and a person possibly shot in the area of 24 Woodruff Way in Mattapan. On arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
As other units were responding to the call, a brown vehicle was seen fleeing the area at a noteworthy rate of speed. Given the vehicle’s high rate of speed, coupled with its proximity to the crime scene, officers activated their emergency equipment (blue lights & sirens) and attempted to stop the car. However, instead of stopping, the operator of the vehicle refused to acknowledge the officer’s efforts to pull him over.
In the area of Donwood Terrace and Ridgeview Ave, the operator ultimately pulled to side of the road. However, as soon as the vehicle came to a stop, three individuals immediately exited the vehicle in an effort to flee the area. Officers were able to chase down and take into custody one of the three fleeing suspects. While the suspect was being detained, officers retraced the steps taken during the foot pursuit in an effort to locate any discarded evidence. Upon doing so, officers observed and recovered a loaded firearm.
Officers arrested Osmell Odena, 22, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and the Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
