Clueless Passenger’s Bid to Buy a Ride Home Leaves Him Ride-less & Behind Bars

At about 2:30am, on Sunday, February 3, 2013, officers from District D-14 (Brighton) received a call for a person vandalizing a motor vehicle in the area of 1020 Commonwealth Ave in Brighton. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that, while he was parking his car, an unknown white male (herein referred to as the suspect) opened his back door, got into the backseat of his car and asked the victim for a ride to his home in Watertown. According to the victim, the suspect stated that he would pay him $100 dollars. In response to the offer, the victim instructed the suspect to keep his money and to get out of his car. However, after getting out of the car, the suspect smashed the victim’s passenger side mirror and then ran into T Anthony’s Pizzeria. Officers observed the broken mirror.

Upon entering the pizzeria, officers observed the suspect who, upon seeing the approaching officers, attempted to avoid capture by running through the restaurant’s kitchen in an effort to escape out the restaurant’s back door.

Officers arrested Pat Malstedt, 23, of Watertown and charged him with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.
