Police Arrest Five for Stealing Bicycles in Hyde Park

At about 4:03pm, on Monday, December 3, 2012, officers from District E-18 (Hyde Park) responded to a call for a larceny of several bicycles in the area of 900 Hyde Park Ave. On arrival, officers were met by the victim who was detaining one of the suspects (a 13 year-old male). According to the victim, he observed the suspect and four additional teen-aged males enter his backyard in an effort to steal three mountain bikes. Upon seeing the suspects trying to steal the bikes, the victim says he ran towards and confronted the suspects. When he confronted the suspects, the victim says the suspects dropped the bikes and fled the scene. The victim was able to run down and detain one of the suspects until police arrived.

While officers were on scene talking to the victim, the other four suspects returned to the scene. After being positively identified by the suspects, the remaining four suspects were taken into police custody.

Officers arrested five juvenile males and charged all five with Receiving Stolen Property (Over $250) and Trespassing.
