Breaking & Entering Suspect Placed Under Arrest With the Assistance of Northeastern University Police
At about 2:47am, on Friday, November 16, 2012, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in progress at The Buttery (312 Shawmut Avenue).
On arrival, officers spoke to a restaurant employee who stated while cleaning, he observed the injured suspect carrying a computer, coffee maker and a label maker. The employee stated the suspect fled the area through a nearby alley toward Tremont Street. The employee stated to officers the suspect damaged the door and broke into the restaurant. Dispatchers put out a description of the suspect
Less than an hour later, officers responded to a call for an alarm at 200 Newbury St (Niketown). On arrival, officers observed damage to a front window. Officers secured the perimeter, requested additional officers and searched the building for suspects. A store employee later told police an undetermined amount of Nike jackets were stolen.
A short distance away, officers observed what appeared to be abandoned property in front of 261 Dartmouth Street (7-11 Store). Officers spoke with employees of the store who stated, several minutes earlier, an unknown male entered the store and attempted to sell Nike brand clothing. Officers broadcast a description of the suspect who fled on foot toward Exeter Street/ Huntington Avenue.
While canvasing the area, at about 4:30am, officers observed several males at W. Newton Street and St. Botolph Street (7-11 Store), who were in possession of what appeared to be stolen Nike clothing with tags still attached. The males stated to officers they found the jackets in the area of Blackwood Street and St. Botolph Street near a bicycle. Officers seized the bicycle from the scene.
At about 4:45am. Northeastern University Police observed a man fitting the description of the suspect in the area of Tremont Street and Northampton Street wearing a yellow Nike Live Strong sweatshirt and carrying several Nike items.
The suspect was identified and placed under arrest.
The male suspect, Juan Maddox, 44, of Boston, is charged with Breaking and Entering into a Building, Larceny Over $250, Receiving Stolen Property and Malicious Destruction of Property.
