UPDATE: Death Investigation in the area of Atlantic Ave & High Street – Victim Identified

Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors continue to investigate yesterday morning’s fatal shooting in the area of Atlantic Ave and High Street. Preliminary results of the investigation appear to suggest that members of two groups became involved in a verbal altercation which led to shots being fired by two individuals.

One of those individuals, the deceased, has been identified as a Dumayne Chin, 25, of Boston. Mr. Chin sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at Tuft’s Medical Center.

The second individual, a 33-year-old male, possessed a registered firearm and a valid license to carry it. That individual has surrendered his firearm to police, given a full statement and has fully cooperated with the investigation thus far. At this point in the investigation, it appears he may have acted in self-defense and has not been charged at this time.

Boston Police homicide detectives have interviewed several witnesses and continue to gather and evaluate evidence connected with the case. Suffolk prosecutors will conduct a grand jury investigation into the incident as they routinely do in cases where the facts and circumstances of a death require a thorough examination.
