Ice Cream!! You Scream!! We All Scream for Ice Cream!!

Ice Cream!!!

The Boston Police Ice Cream Truck is back on patrol and handing out Hoodsie Cups at neighborhood functions throughout the city. In fact, the BPD Ice Cream Truck was recently seen spreading good cheer and handing out Hoodsies this past week (Thursday, June 28, 2012) at the unveiling of the Castle Square Community Center. Officers from Area D-4 (South End) provided all those in attendance with one of New England’s most beloved ice cream treats.

Under the leadership of Mayor Thomas Menino, the Boston Police Department is continuing the community policing initiative which first began last summer. We’ve taken to calling it Operation Hoodsie Cup. Operation Hoodsie Cup is a Hood Ice Cream Truck driven by Boston Police Officers who serve up and hand-deliver Hoodsie Cups & smiles to children in pre-determined areas of the city. The one-on-one contact and trust-building that goes hand in hand with passing out ice cream enables the BPD to uncover and create new channels for communication between youth and police in all of Boston’s neighborhoods. Many thanks to Hood Ice Cream for making this initiative possible.
