Police Officer En Route to a Detail Stops and Puts the Brakes on Two Suspects Trying to Steal a Four Wheel All Terrain Vehicle in Roslindale

Detail Officer Saves the Day

At about 5:12pm, on Monday, January 16, 2012, a police officer en-route to a detail location observed two suspicious looking characters pushing a four wheeled all-terrain vehicle in the area of 50 Fawndale Road. As a result of these observations, the officer approached and conducted a stop of the suspects. While talking to the suspects, the officer observed what appeared to be bolt cutters and a hacksaw resting on the seat of the all terrain vehicle. When asked where and how they came to possess the all terrain vehicle, the suspects stated, “From a friend inRoslindale Square.” When the officer requested the name and phone number of the friend who gave them the vehicle, the suspects were unable to provide it.

In an effort to locate the owner of the vehicle, officers conducted a canvas of the area. During the search, officers located a shed in the back yard of164 Florence Street.  Officers noted that shed’s lock was damaged and other vehicles, similar to the one found in the possession of the suspects, were located on the property.  Officers were able to locate the owner of the shed who stated that there was a four wheeler inside the shed. The owner described the vehicle to the officers and the description provided was similar to the vehicle in the possession of the suspects. The owner followed officers to the location where the vehicle was found and upon seeing the all terrain vehicle, stated, “That’s my quad.”

The male suspect, Steven Smith, 22 of Roslindale was arrested for Breaking & Entering a Building, Intent to Commit a Felony, Possession of Burglarious Tools and Receiving Stolen Goods.
