Bike Owner Chases Down Wanna Be Bike Thief in Jamaica Plain
At about 6:09pm, on Friday, January 6, 2012, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) were on patrol when they observed one male (herein referred to as the victim) running or chasing behind another male, who was riding a mountain bike, in the area of Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. From what the officers could tell, the male chasing behind the bike looked as if he was trying to retrieve the mountain bike. As officers got closer, officers observed the male chasing behind the bike (the victim) take a punch to the head just before he regained control of the bicycle. Officers spoke to the victim who stated that he placed his bike in front of Alex Chimis Restaurant in the area of 358 Centre Street before entering the restaurant to place an order. According to the victim, while he was inside the restaurant, he observed the suspect jump on his bike and take off on it.
Officers were able to run down and catch the suspect.
Officers arrested Carlos Tirado, 24, of Boston and charged him with Unarmed Robbery.
