TWELVE BOSTON MEN CHARGED WITH
FEDERAL AND STATE DRUG DISTRIBUTION CHARGES
Boston, Mass…In federal and state indictments that were unsealed today, 12 Boston men
have been charged with distributing cocaine and heroin in Roxbury and Dorchester.
According to a complaint affidavit, these charges are the result of a three-month
investigation targeting drug trafficking in areas particularly hard hit by drug dealing and related
violence: the area around the Warren Gardens Apartments near Dudley Square, and areas around
Codman Square and Uphams Corner in Dorchester. All of the federal defendants are charged
with distribution of cocaine; and five are also charged with having conducted their drug deals
within 1,000 feet of area parks or schools.
“This investigation reflects the commitment of the Department of Justice to work closely
with our local and state agencies to bring the full spectrum of federal resources to bear on the
violence plaguing our local communities,” stated United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz. “As
we begin the new school year, state and federal law enforcement working cooperatively, and
guided by strategic crime statistics demonstrating where the need is greatest, will continue their
efforts to remove dangerous drug traffickers from the street. Law abiding citizens in every
neighborhood should be able to live without fear or exposure to drug activity and the violence
that so often accompanies it.”
“The ATF will continue to aggressively partner with its federal, state and local law
enforcement partners to remove dangerous felons from the streets and improve the quality of life
for every citizen of Boston,” stated ATF Special Agent-in-Charge Guy N. Thomas. “This
investigation is an example of what cooperative law enforcement can accomplish when agencies
pull together to accomplish a common goal and send a message that violent crime and drug
trafficking will not be tolerated.”
Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis stated, “This latest development
demonstrates our ongoing and collaborative commitment to Warren Gardens and other areas of
the city effected by illegal drug trade. Our goal is to provide peace and safety to the many
residents in this community who deserve a healthy and safe environment to live and work.”
“Drug trafficking and violent crime go hand in hand,” District Attorney Daniel Conley
said. “The evidence is in the drug-related homicides, shootings, and robberies that too often
target innocent families. By targeting distribution networks such as these, local, state and federal
partners are working to make Boston and the Commonwealth safer for everyone who lives and
works here.”
Charged in federal indictments with distribution of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school
or playground are:

Charged in a federal criminal complaint with distributing cocaine is:

Upon conviction, the federal defendants each face a maximum term of imprisonment of
20 years. If convicted of distribution of crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school or
playground, the defendants each face up to 40 years in prison.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office today announced the return of criminal
complaints charging the following individuals with Distribution of a Class A or B substance and
Distribution of a Controlled Substance in a School Zone:

Charged in additional state criminal complaints alleging distribution of a counterfeit substance
are:

U.S. Attorney Ortiz; District Attorney Conley; SAC Thomas; and Commissioner Davis
made the announcement today. The federal cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S.
Attorneys in Sullivan’s Organized Crime Strike Force/Gang Unit. The state cases are being
prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys in Conley’s Gang and Narcotics Units.
The details contained in the indictments and complaints are allegations. The defendants
are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court
of law.
