Not Knowing How Two GPS Units Got in Your Pocket Will Land You in Jail

Around 4:40AM today, officers from District D-14 (Allston) were on patrol when they observed two individuals walking down Harvard Avenue.  Officers aware of recent commercial break-ins in the area and in light of the time of day started approaching the two individuals to further investigate.

As soon as officers started approaching the two individuals, the two immediately took off running into an alley from the front of 113 Harvard Ave. into a City of Boston lot. As the suspects ran, officers observed one of them clutching his pocket as he ran. Officers, within a short time, corralled the two suspects in the rear of the City lot. Officers spoke to the two suspects and asked them what they were doing in the area at this time and they answered, “I don’t know, seeing a friend.” Officers having observed one of the two suspects clutching his pocket as he was running asked him what was in his pocket and he answered, “I don’t know.”  A pat frisk was conducted of the suspect and the suspect retrieved two GPS units from his pocket when asked what was in his pocket. Officers checked the address in the units but neither suspect could confirm any of the recent addresses in the unit. One of the suspects, when asked the source of the units, confessed to officers that they had stolen the units from a nearby car.

The suspects, a 16 year-old and 18 year-old Brionn P. Adams, both of Brookline were arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Goods, Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle.
