Armed Robbery Suspect Caught in the Act
Yesterday afternoon around 2:12PM, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) arrested suspect, Jamie Brown, 22 of Lewiston, ME and charged him with Attempted Armed Robbery.
Officers from the Gang Unit were on patrol on Dorchester Ave. near Adams St. when they observed the suspect tucked into the doorway of 1464 Dorchester Avenue looking around furtively. Officers, who were stuck in slow moving traffic, continued to watch the suspect as a woman walked by the suspect’s location. A short while later, officers observed the suspect run pass the victim, knock her down and run away on foot.
Officers immediately exited their unmarked cruiser and chased the suspect on foot through several streets and alleys and eventually caught the suspect on Lincoln Street. Once caught with a knife and after being “Mirandized”, the suspect stated, “I wasn’t going to use the knife…I would never hurt her, I just need to feed the kids.”
Officers then returned to the victim’s location and spoke to her. The victim reported to officers that she was coming from shopping and walking on Dorchester Ave. when the suspect ran by her knocking her to the ground and grabbed her purse causing her to fall and hurt her knees. The victim was brought to the victim’s location and there successfully identified the suspect as the person who snatched her purse. The victim was then arrested and charged with the above offenses.
