Running Into a Cab Lands One Behind Bars for Operating Under the Influence
At about 12:40am, on Sunday, July 17, 2011, officers from Area D-4 (South End) were sitting at a red light in the area of Arlington Street & Columbus Ave when officers observed a motor vehicle accident involving a Honda Civic and a taxi cab. Upon seeing the accident, officers approached both operators to render assistance. Both operators declined medical attention. However, while talking to the operator of the Honda Civic, officers detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the operator. Officers further noted that the operator’s speech was slurred, balance compromised and eyes glassy. When asked if had been drinking, the operator stated that he had two beers earlier in the evening. When asked to submit to a field sobriety test, the operator provided consent. After failing the exam, the operator was taken into custody.
Officers arrested a 26 year-old male from Arlington and charged him with Operating Under the Influence.
