Two Arrested for Chewing and Not Screwing

Last night around 6:08PM, officers from District D-4 (South End) arrested suspects, Meelad Jalal, 18 and Burgan Rasul, 22 both of Malden and charged them with Shoplifting.

Officers responded to 53 Huntington Ave. /Shaw’s Supermarket to assist security with three males who were shoplifting at the above location. On arrival, officers learned that the above two suspects and a third unidentified male walked into the store and went to the pre-arranged meals section and picked out a number of pre-cooked meals. The suspects then proceeded to the second level where they ate all the food and then attempted to walk out of the store without paying. The suspects ate an order of French fries, a plate of fried chicken, various pastries, biscuits and approximately 2 lbs. of steak tips.

Officers, after speaking to the security officers, attempted to speak to the suspects and they refused initially to give officers their names, with one suspect identifying himself as John Doe and the other as Rick James. After repeated attempts, one suspect finally provided officers with his Massachusetts identification card which allowed officers to ascertain his identification while the other suspect was only identified during the booking process. The third suspect was able to “screw” before police arrival.
