Suspect Discards Firearm While Being Pursued By BPD Officer
On Thursday, February 26, 2009, at approximately 3:339pm, an officer assigned to Area B-2 (Roxbury), was traveling in the area of Washington / Circuit St’s when he observed a large group of teenagers congregating in a parking lot on Crispus Attucks Street. The officer was aware that there has been a recent problem in this general area regarding street robberies being conducted by young teenagers.
The officer circled the block and approached the group. Upon noticing the oncoming police officer, one of the youths broke from the group and began walking away. This individual appeared to be nervous for he walked at a fast pace and continued to look back at the officer. The officer got along side the suspect and called him over. The suspect immediately began running from the officer in the direction of Washington Street. The officer followed the suspect onto Thornton Street where he observed the suspect drop, what appeared to be a firearm, to the ground. The suspect stopped running and reclaimed the gun before continuing on. The officer broadcast a description and the activities of the suspect and additional BPD officers responded to the area. Officers continued to follow the suspect as he entered the rear of 81 Thornton Street and attempted to jump the fence. The suspect had difficulty doing so and he was observed throwing the firearm over the fence into the back yard of 75 Thornton Street. Officers apprehended the suspect and located a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun.
Officers arrested Hasan Davis, 17, of Boston on the charges of Illegal Possession of a Firearm and Illegal Possession of Ammunition.
BPD Executes Search Warrant That Yields Two Firearms
On Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at approximately 7:21pm, officers assigned to Area B-2 (Roxbury), responded to Nazing Street for a report of a man with a gun.
Upon officers’ arrival, they met with an individual who stated a Black Male, known only as “Larry”, assaulted her as she walked on Wayne Street. The victim went on to state that “Larry” removed a Black handgun from his waistband and demanded money. “Larry” waived the firearm in the air and gestured to another male to come over. The second unknown Male came over and punched the victim in the back of the head. Both suspects then entered a Black sedan and fled the area. The victim was able to follow the suspects as they proceeded to Nazing Street. Both suspects exited the car and ran to the rear of 20 Nazing Street.
Officers set up a perimeter around 20 Nazing Street and observed a Black Male, fitting the description given, look out the second floor window. The suspect immediately removed himself from view when he observed the police presence. Officers then entered the common area of the building and observed a Black Male running down the stairs. He was detained and later identified by the victim as the perpetrator of the assault. The suspect’s apartment was then secured pending a search warrant. Officers arrested Larry Allen, 28, of Boston on the charges of Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (firearm).
On Thursday, February 26, 2009, at approximately 12:30am, Area B-2 (Roxbury) detectives executed a search warrant on Mr. Allen’s residence, 20 Nazing Street. As a result of the search, two firearms were seized (.357 Magnum & .380 Jiminez Arms semi-automatic). A variety of ammunition and in excess of 90 grams of cocaine was also located. Mr. Allen will additionally face the charges of Illegal Possession of Ammunition, Two Counts of Illegal Possession of a Firearm and Trafficking Over 28 Grams of a Class B Substance (cocaine).
SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR DRUGS AND MOTOR VEHICLE VIOLATIONS
Incident Involved Officer Firearm Discharge
On Thursday, February 26, 2009, at approximately 10:25am, an officer assigned to B-2 (Roxbury), was traveling in the area of Warren Street when a Black Mercury Mountaineer passed by with a loud muffler. The officer then conducted an RMV check on the plate and discovered it was possibly registered to another vehicle.
The officer followed the vehicle and observed it park in the area of Crawford Street. The officer approached the vehicle and asked the operator for his license and registration. An additional RMV check showed the operator’s license had been suspended.
The operator was removed from the vehicle and a pat frisk was conducted. As a result, an amount of marijuana was located in the suspect’s pocket. Additional BPD officers arrived on-scene in order to assist in placing the suspect into custody. While attempting to do so, the suspect resisted and fled. The suspect fled on foot, jumping fences and cutting through several yards in the area of Homestead Street.
A description of the suspect was broadcast and numerous BPD officers conducted a search the area. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was spotted on Brunswick Street and apprehended.
During the pursuit, an officer discharged his department-issued firearm. No one was injured as a result and the discharge appears to be unintentional. The Boston Police Firearm Discharge Team is investigating the incident.

A MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!
Boston Police Encourage Parade-Goers To Celebrate Responsibly
St. Patrick’s Day is an exciting time throughout the City for residents and guests. The City of Boston in conjunction with the Boston Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment.
It is our hope that residents and guests alike will enjoy the festivities. At this time, the Boston Police Department is working closely with other city agencies and members of the South Boston community to create an event that is designed for families.
Throughout the holiday weekend, the Boston Police Department will be taking steps to increase patrols. The intent is to encourage people to celebrate responsibly while strictly adhering to all alcohol laws.
There are a few points we hope the community will keep in mind to assist with a successful event.
WHAT THE BPD EXPECTS FROM THE COMMUNITY
• Enjoy the Parade and please be considerate of fellow parade-goers.
• Public drinking will not be tolerated.
• Don’t engage in negative behavior such as fighting, throwing beverages or destroying property.
• Respect police instructions and, if asked to leave an area, please do so peacefully.
• Please be aware that parking along the parade route will be limited. Individuals are reminded to be mindful of street signs and to follow parking instructions.
• Taxis and public transportation offer inexpensive and smart alternatives to drinking and driving. Please take advantage of them. A designated driver is also an alternative.
• If you are hosting a party along the parade route, YOU are responsible for your guests. Please make safe decisions and refrain from unsafe roof top viewing.
WHAT THE COMMUNITY SHOULD EXPECT FROM THE BPD
• BPD will significantly increase patrols in and around the South Boston area.
• BPD maintains open lines of communication with all local colleges and Universities. Any student arrested will not only face criminal charges, but will also be subject to penalties imposed by their academic institution.
• BPD will strictly enforce compliance to all alcohol laws. Officers will be conducting walk-throughs of bars and city streets especially in areas highly populated with college students. In addition, officers are working cooperatively with liquor establishments to be sure alcohol laws are strictly enforced.
• DUI enforcement will be a priority and we will have officers on duty focused specifically on this effort. Do not ruin your celebration by hurting yourself or others.
• Officers will conduct themselves in a professional, respectful and proportional manner.
