DAILY INCIDENTS FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2008

SHOT SPOTTER HELPS POLICE LOCATE AND ARREST SUSPECT IN POSSESSION OF AN ILLEGAL FIREARM
At about 12:24am, on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call (generated by Shot-Spotter) for shots fired in the area of 460 Quincy Street in Dorchester. On arrival, officers observed a group of four individuals standing around at the intersection of Quincy & Clarkson Streets. When officers asked the individuals if they had heard any gunshots, the individuals were evasive in their answering. Fearing one of the individuals was in possession of a firearm, officers began to frisk the suspects. As officers were frisking one of the suspects, officers felt a hard object. Officers quickly recognized the object to be a firearm. As officers were in the process of securing the firearm, the suspect pushed officers away and fled the area. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect as he was exiting a backyard in the area of Barry Street. When officers apprehended the suspect, the suspect stated, “You got me, I’m exhausted.” When asked to produce a license to carry, the suspect could not. Officers recovered a black firearm.
Officers arrested Paul Miranda, 18, of Dorchester and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
BIKE UNIT OFFICERS THWART UNARMED ROBBERY IN DORCHESTER
At about 6:13pm, on Monday, September 29, 2008, officers assigned to the Bicycle Unit were on patrol in the area of Dorchester Ave and Charles Street when officers observed two black males running in their direction, while being chased by another individual. Officers further observed that the male doing the chasing was pointing and yelling at the two black males. Seeing this, the officers instructed the black males to stop. However, instead of stopping, the black males kept on running. After a brief pursuit, officers were able to apprehend one of the suspects. When officers spoke to the victim, the victim stated that he was walking down the street, talking on his cell phone, when two suspects approached him from behind and stole his phone. When the victim saw the individual police had in custody, the victim stated, “That’s him.”
After the suspect was positively identified, officers arrested Jeffrey Hall, 18, of Dorchester and charged him with Unarmed Robbery. As officers were placing the suspect into the police cruiser, the suspect turned and spit at one of the arresting officers. As a result, the suspect was additionally charged with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.
MAN WITHOUT A LICENSE ARRESTED DOWNTOWN
At about 3:50am, on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) observed a gray motor vehicle traveling the wrong way down a one-way street. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the car. When officers asked the operator to produce a license, the operator produced a Mass identification card. When told he needed a license to operate, the suspect stated he was a good driver. A check, thru the Registry of Motor Vehicles, showed the individual not to have a license to operate in the Commonwealth. As a result, officers arrested Ed Dean, 43, of Roxbury and charged him with Operating without Being Licensed.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2008

PURSE SNATCHER ARRESTED IN ROXBURY
At about 4:10am, on Monday, September 29, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for larceny at 135 Dudley Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that she fell asleep in the lobby of the above location. When she awoke, her purse was gone. A search of the area enabled officers to locate an individual carrying a purse in the area of the Dudley MBTA Station. Upon looking inside the purse, officers discovered personal papers (credit cards, etc) belonging to the victim. Officers arrested Kent Riley, 44, of Roxbury and charged him with Larceny (Pick Pocket).
ARMED ROBBER ARRESTED IN JAMAICA PLAIN
At about 8:30pm, on Sunday, September 28, 2008, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to radio call for an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the area of 225 Centre Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was on his way home from work when he was approached by an unknown black male. The victim then stated that the unknown black male pulled a knife on him and tried to rob him. According to the victim, the suspect was a 5’6” black male with a light complexion, about 140-150 pounds, wearing a green & white baseball cap, white T-shirt, and jeans. The victim also stated the suspect was on a bicycle. According to the victim, the suspect approached him and asked to use his cell phone. When the victim refused, the suspect showed a knife and stated, ”You better give it up.” The victim says, at this point, he ran back to Jackson Square T station and called for help. A search of the area enabled officers to locate an individual matching the description of the suspect. After the victim positively identified the suspect, officers arrested William Mejia, 18, of Roxbury and charged him with Armed Assault with Intent to Rob, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife).
PICTURE TAKER ARRESTED DOWNTOWN
At about 2:43am, on Monday, September 29, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for fight in the area of 266 Commercial Street. On arrival, officers were approached by a female who stated that she was sitting in her double-parked car awaiting Triple ‘A’ when a white male approached her driver-side window and began taking pictures of her. As a result, the female yelled at the suspect, telling him to leave her alone. According to the victim, the suspect, still taking pictures, then, moved to the rear of her car in order to take a picture of the car’s license plate. At this point, the suspect began swearing at the victim. When a bystander intervened, the suspect yelled, “I’m trying to protect the North End.” By the time police arrived, the suspect had left the area. In short time, officers located the suspect. When officers approached the suspect, the suspect began yelling and swearing at the officers. When the suspect, after being warned, refused to lower his voice, officers arrested John McGinnis, 44, of Canton and charged him with Disturbing the Peace.

DEATH INVESTIGATION AT 10 EMERSON PLACE

On September 28, 2008 at approximately 9:32pm, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun at 10 Emerson Place. On arrival, officers secured the building and assisted with the exit of several residents and guests. Officers also did the same for the residents on the 20th floor. The Boston Police Entry Team responded, secured the apartment and then entered without incident.
When officers entered, they first observed a white female lying unresponsive. Officers also observed an unresponsive white male in the apartment. Both victims were pronounced on scene.
A preliminary investigation has indicated that this incident is an apparent murder-suicide involving a husband and wife. The victims have been identified as 61 year old Christian Mogensen and his wife 60 year old Sharon Glassman, both of Boston. Victims appeared to be suffering from a gun shot wound. Homicide detectives are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2008

Three Suspects Arrested Pursuant to Execution of Search Warrant
Last night, Saturday, September 27, 2008 around 7:13PM, members of the District E-5 (West Roxbury) drug unit executed a search warrant at 41B Vershire St. in West Roxbury as a result of an ongoing drug investigation.
During the execution of that search warrant, officers recovered over $6,000 of cash, seventy Oxycontin pills, a large amount of cocaine, a quantity of marijuana, and several items used in drug dealing and packaging.
As a result the execution of the search warrant, officers arrested suspect, Joseph Phinney, 20, of West Roxbury and charged him with Trafficking Class B. Suspect, Jean C. Moreira, 19, of Roslindale was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D. Suspect, Frederick Jackson, 19, of West Roxbury was arrested and charged with Possession of Class B.
Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested with Stolen Goods
Last night around 8:01PM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to 38 Wayne St. for an armed robbery.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim and a witness who reported that they were walking on Blue Hill Ave. at the intersection of Wayne St. when a suspect riding a bicycle approached them. The suspect confronted the victim and the witness and stated, “Give me your phone!” The victim reported that she told the suspect that she was not giving him her phone when the suspect lifted his shirt and her friend exclaimed, “He’s got a gun!” The victim, believing that the suspect was armed, handed the suspect two cell phones that she had. The victim and witness provided officers with a description of the suspect and the bicycle that the suspect was riding.
About twenty minutes later, officers were patrolling the area of Columbia Rd. and Devon St. when they observed an individual matching the suspect description on a bicycle. The suspect, upon seeing officers immediately tried pedaling away but was stopped by officers to conduct further investigation. The suspect was stopped and a threshold inquiry conducted during which the two phones stolen from the victim were recovered.
The suspect was returned to the scene for a possible identification by the victim. At the scene, the victim positively identified the suspect as the person who robbed him. The suspect, a 14-year-old male juvenile from Dorchester was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.
Two Arrested for Showing No Class at Boston Harbor Hotel
This morning at around 1:30AM, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) arrested suspects, Jennifer L. Miller, 36, and John T. Miller, 41 both of Southlake, TX and charged them with Disturbing the Peace, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Trespass. At the booking desk, Jennifer L. Miller was further charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon: Shod Foot.
Officers were initially requested to the Boston Harbor Hotel located at 70 Rowes Wharf in Boston to assist security with two unruly hotel guests who were assaulting hotel security. On arrival, officers spoke to hotel personnel who reported to officers that the suspects needed to be escorted out of the hotel due to their behavior. Officers responded to the suspects’ room to further investigate the incident. At the room, officers soon learned why the suspects had been asked to leave. The suspects were hostile, rude and confrontational and used profane and racist derogatory language toward the hotel staff and officers. The suspects were told by officers that they needed to leave based on their unruly behavior, and the fact that they were making such a scene that other hotel guests could not indulge the quiet enjoyment of their room. The suspects refused to leave after being asked several times and continued to berate the officers and hotel staff with continued use of profanity and racist derogatory language. While officers continued top mediate the situation to get the suspects to leave the hotel in a peaceful manner, suspect, John T. Miller bumped into officers several times in a combative manner despite being warned that he could be arrested for doing so.
After some time, officers convinced both suspects to gather their belongings and exit the hotel room. The suspects, upon leaving their room, continued their loud and unruly actions while walking the hallway causing several hotel guests to exit their room and see the cause of the disturbance. As a result of her ongoing use of profanity, loud, and unruly behavior suspect, Jennifer Miller was placed under arrests in the lobby of the hotel and charged with Disturbing the Peace. Outside the hotel, suspect, John T. Miller, continued to be verbally and physically assaultive with both officers and hotel staff and refused to leave the area after numerous requests. Suspect, John T. Miller, was then arrested and charged Disturbing the Peace, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Assault and Battery on the hotel security.

DAIIY INCIDENTS FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008

Nudity Lands One Behind Bars
Yesterday afternoon around 1:30PM, an officer performing a detail in the area of 60 School Street arrested suspect, Aaron Boutte, 28, of Revere and charged him with Open and gross Lewdness.
The officer while performing a detail was approached by several witnesses and alerted that there was a male walking up the street who was naked. The witnesses, who were clearly shocked and alarmed at the fact that an individual was walking in the street naked at this time of day, pointed the officer in the direction of the suspect. The officer walked in the direction that he was pointed in and observed he suspect walking on the sidewalk on School St. toward Tremont St. completely naked and waving his arms as onlookers stared in amazement.
The officer approached the suspect and attempted to place him under arrest when he became combative and struggled with the officer before he was placed in handcuffs. During the entire incident, traffic was in gridlock and there were hundreds of people who witnessed the suspect and his actions.
Loud Party and Disrespectful Behavior Lands Suspect in Jail
This morning around 12:52AM, officers from District D-14 (Allston and Brighton) responded to a loud party/noise call at 38 Gardner St. in Allston.
On arrival, officers spoke to an individual who resided at the residence. Officers directed the tenant to have everyone that did not live there to leave due to the noise complaint. The officer then attempted to go in and ensure that everyone left when the tenant assaulted the officer and told him that he could not come in. The officers then cleared the house and in so doing determined that there were several underage people that had been in the house drinking.
The suspect, Samuel R. Gibbons, 20, of Brighton was arrested and charged with Keeper of a Disorderly, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
Sausage Craving Leads to Robbery
This morning around 2:35AM, officers from District A-1 (Downtown Boston) in the area of Surface Rd. and Hanover Ave. were alerted by a passerby that there was a robbery around the corner.
Officers quickly responded to the scene and there observed two people fighting on the sidewalk. As the officer approached the fight, one of the two parties immediately took off and fled into the Rose Kennedy Park pursued by the other party that was involved in the fight. The officer pursued both parties and successfully stopped both of them in the park. There, the officer spoke to both parties and determined that the individual who had fled first robbed the other one who chased after him. The victim told officers that he approached the suspect and asked him where he could buy a sausage. The victim stated the suspect accompanied by three other males then lured him into an alley where they knocked him to the ground, held him down and stole his wallet.
The suspect denied stealing the victim’s wallet but officers were able to find the victim’s
wallet when they followed the path that the suspect had taken when he ran from officers. The suspect, Billy K. Egleston, 32, of Charlestown was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery, and Possession of Class D for marijuana that he is believed to have had in his possession.

BOSTON POLICE RESPOND TO SHOTS FIRED CALL

SUSPECT VEHICLE STRIKES TREE ON DORCHESTER AVENUE
On September 26, 2008 at about 2:37am, officers responded to a radio call for shots fired at 7 Levant Street in Dorchester, where a caller states she saw two cars drive away from a shooting – a grey Toyota 4 Runner and a black Honda.
Prior to arrival another officer located ballistics evidence at 6 Levant Street, Dorchester. Meanwhile, a second call came in for shots fired on Bullard Street and Dorchester Ave. Officers went to investigate that call, which is in the immediate area of the Levant Street incident. A dispatcher stated that the suspect vehicle went, “up Bullard Street toward Washington Street”. A short time later, officers broadcast that they observed a black Honda operating at a high rate of speed without a headlight. Officers soon lost site of that vehicle driving in the direction of Geneva Ave. toward Columbia Road.
Upon receiving this information, an officer headed down Olney Street toward Columbia Road when the officer encountered the broadcast vehicle coming directly towards him on Olney Street at a high rate of speed without his headlights on. The officer swerved out of his way. The suspect vehicle then made a right turn on to Blackville Street, then a left turn on to Bowdoin Street. The officer followed the vehicle while broadcasting suspect’s direction of flight. The officer observed numerous motor vehicle violations as he continued to follow the vehicle at a distance and a high rate of speed. The vehicle went down towards Bowdoin Street and made a right turn on Hancock Street. The officer lost site of the vehicle at Hancock Street and Dorchester Avenue. The officer broadcast that he has lost vehicle, but it maybe heading towards Freeport Street or Dorchester Avenue. Soon after, an officer observed the suspect vehicle coming towards him at a high rate of speed, fish tale upon noticing the marked police vehicle and collide into a tree located at 1453 Dorchester Ave. The officer notified area dispatcher his observation and requested EMS. Suspect was ejected from the motor vehicle. An officer attended to the suspect while awaiting EMS arrival.
The suspect was transported to Boston Medical Center Emergency and is listed in stable condition. The suspect will be charged with various traffic violations and also refusal to submit. The investigation into the original shots fired incident remains ongoing.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2008

Robbery Suspects Caught
Yesterday evening around 5:05PM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the intersection of Howard Ave. and Hartford St. for a robbery in progress.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who reported to officers that he had just been physically assaulted and his backpack and cell phone stolen. The victim reported that he was walking in the area of Howard Ave, and Hartford St. talking on his cell phone when he was approached from behind by two males who pushed him to the ground, beat him up, and stole his cell phone and backpack.
The victim provided officers with a description of the suspects along with the bicycles they were riding, and their direction of flight. Officers canvassed the area in search of the suspects and a short while later observed two individuals matching the suspects’ description on Dudley Street. The two individuals were stopped for a threshold inquiry and the victim transported to their location for a possible identification. The victim was brought to the suspects’ location where he positively identified both individuals as his attackers. The suspects, a 14-year-old and 16-year-old male juvenile from Dorchester were both arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery. Officers, however, were unable to find the victim’s property.
OUI Suspect Arrested after Causing Accident at Accident Scene
Last night around 7:55PM, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) were in the area of Dorchester Ave. and Melville Ave. when they heard a loud crashing sound.
Officers immediately responded to the scene and there observed an accident between two cars. Of the two vehicles in the accident, one of the vehicles had been directed around a Boston Fire vehicle that had responded to the initial accident when the second vehicle struck the car that had been directed around the BFD vehicle. Officers approached the operator of one of the cars and immediately noticed that the operator’s eyes were glassy and red, and that there was an odor of alcohol coming from her. The operator was instructed to turn off the car and place the car in park, but appeared to be incoherent in her ability to follow those instructions until officers removed the keys from the ignition.
The operator was removed from the car and given a series of Field Sobriety Tests, all of which she failed. In addition, a query of the operator’s license revealed her to be unlicensed. The suspect, Alcione Souza, 39, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed.
“Hell Yeah” I Want to Get Arrested!
Around 9:48PM lat night, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to 1602 Dorchester for a motor vehicle accident.
On scene, officers spoke to a victim who reported that he was traveling north on Dorchester Ave. when he came to a stop on at a light on Melville Avenue. The victim then reported that his vehicle was struck from behind while stopped at the light causing his car to hit the car in front of him. Officers then, in order to clear the streets while investigating the accident, asked the operator of the car that initiated the accident to move out of the street, and park her car in front of the officers’ cruiser. The operator of the car that initiated the accident then pulled her car up the street substantially further ahead of the officers’ cruiser. Officers walked up the street to where the operator had moved her car and asked her why she had driven so far up the street and received no response. Officers then asked the operator for her license, and registration. The operator fumbled in her purse but gave nothing to the officers. Officers, a second time, asked the suspect operator for her license at which point the suspect handed officers a take out and stated that it was her license.
Officers then asked the suspect to exit her car and asked her if she had been drinking to which the suspect exclaimed, “Hell yeah!” Officers then attempted to administer Field Sobriety Tests to the suspect, but were unable to do so because the suspect was so unstable on her feet that she could not stand up.
The suspect, Shaynel Y. Griffith, 23, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence, and Possession of Class D for marijuana found on her person after she was placed under arrest.
