Suspect Arrested with Firearm
On Sunday, May 4, 2008, officers from District B-3, the Boston Police Fugitive Unit, Boston Police SWAT team, Homicide Unit, and Youth Violence Strike Force arrested suspect, Mohammed Kaba, 21, of Roslindale who was wanted on outstanding warrants for Possession of Class B, Distribution of Class B, Distribution of Class B within a School Zone, Assault and Battery, Assault with Intent to Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.
Based on an ongoing investigation, officers had received information that the suspect would be in the area of 614 Blue Hill Ave. in Dorchester. Officers observed the suspect inside the Hip Zeppi clothing store and approached him to confirm his identity when he bolted toward the front door and attempted to avoid arrest. Officers were waiting at the front door anticipating the suspects attempted escape and engaged him in a struggle after he broke the glass front door of the store. After a brief but violent struggle officers were able to place the suspect in handcuffs and arrest him.
After being placed under arrest, officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect and recovered a loaded firearm from his waistband, and an additional magazine clip. Further check of the suspect revealed him to be in possession of several bags of marijuana.
The suspect was transported to District B-3 for booking where he was further charged in addition to the outstanding warrants with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Magazine, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Class D, Possession of Class with Intent to Distribute in a School Zone, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Resisting Arrest, and Being an Armed career Criminal.
The suspect, after being placed under arrest and transported to the district station for booking, intimated to officers that he would have started shooting at officers if he had made it out of the store.
Trespassing Investigation Leads to Arrests of Six
Around 5:44pm yesterday, Sunday, May 4, 2008, officers from District B-3 (Dorchester and Mattapan) responded to 214 Harvard St. in Dorchester to conduct an inspection of the hallways due to numerous complaints of teenagers trespassing, hanging out in the hallways, and smoking marijuana.
Officers responded to the building and conducted a cursory search of the hallways when they observed a group of teenagers, 4 males and three females, passing a lit marijuana cigarette around. As the group made note of the officers, they dropped the marijuana cigarette. Officers approached the group and found a bag of marijuana on the floor next to one of the suspects. Officers spoke to the suspects, and were told that the bag of marijuana specifically belonged to one individual in the group.
Officers, based on their observations and experiences, decided to place the four males under arrest for trespassing, and possession of the marijuana. As officers were placing the four males under arrest, they asked the three females to step aside so as to expedite the process. While placing one the male suspects under arrest, the three females attacked two of the officers, punching, and kicking them. Other officer on scene then assisted the officers under attack and placed the three female suspects under arrest. One of the male suspects escaped during the attack by the female suspects.
The three female suspects, an 11-year old, a 14-year old, and a 16 year old all from Dorchester were arrested and charged Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Aiding the Escape of a Prisoner. Three male suspects, Josiah sterling, 18 of West Roxbury, Lennie Lubin, 19, of Boston and a 13-year old from Dorchester were arrested and charged with Trespassing and Possession of Class D.
Multi-Agency Efforts Nabs Purse Snatcher
Last night around 10:33pm, a combined effort of Northeastern P.D., an Allied Barton Security guard and Boston Police officers from District D-4 (South End) resulted in the arrest of suspect, Edward T. Hall, 44, of Boston who was charged with larceny from a Person.
Offices initially responded to the area of Camden St. and Columbus Ave. for a call for larceny from a person/unarmed robbery. On arrival, officers located the victim who reported to officers the suspect walked up to her and asked her for change and when she started to give the suspect change, he grabbed her wallet and fled. The victim started yelling for help when an unidentified young male witness chased the suspect through Carter playground. The suspect stopped at the Northeastern parking lot located on Camden St. when the victim yelled to a security guard at the lot who then notified Northeastern police. Northeastern P.D. responded to the suspect’s location and detained him until officers from District D-4 responded and placed him under arrest.

STABBING INCIDENT LANDS FIVE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 1:20am, on Sunday, May 4, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a person stabbed in the area of 120 Boylston Street. On arrival, officers located a male suffering from a non-life threatening stab wound. The victim was transported to Mass General for additional treatment. According to witnesses, a group of about 4 to 5 suspects surrounded the victim and, then, began punching and kicking him. During the attack, one witness states he observed an individual holding a knife. A description of the suspects was promptly broadcast over Channel 2 of the police radio. In short time, officers located five individuals matching the description of the suspects. While the suspects were being detained, witnesses were brought to the scene so as to provide a positive identification.
After the suspects were positively identified, officers arrested Steven Thoi, 25, of Malden, Don Tran, 26, of Randolph, Tony Dang, 23, of Quincy, Peter Huynh, 27, of Malden, Mark Nguyen, 24, of Roslindale and charged all five with Assault & Battery By Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Knife).
THREE ARMED ROBBERS ARRESTED IN ROXBURY
At about 3:39am, on Saturday, May 3, 2008, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a person stabbed in the area of 10 Trotter Court. On arrival, officers spoke to three victims who stated that they were at a party when two individuals approached them and asked for a ride. The victims say, after talking with the suspects for a while, they agreed to give the suspects a ride. However, during the course of the ride, one of the suspects made a phone call. Upon ending his phone call, the suspect asked the victims if they could pick up his friend. The victims agreed. However, when the 3rd suspect entered the car, he quickly pulled out a knife and demanded money from the victims. During the course of the robbery, the suspect, on several occasions, struck the victims with the butt end of the knife. All three victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries on the scene. The suspects then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A description of the suspects was promptly broadcast over Channel 5 of the police radio. In short time, officers located three individuals matching the description of the suspects. A pat frisk of the suspects enabled officers to recover the knife used in the incident. Moreover, officers were able to recover items (credit cards, bank cards, personal papers) in the names of the victims.
After the suspects were positively identified, officers arrested Marco Rodriguez, 19, of Roxbury, Jesus Ortiz, 17, of Roxbury, a 16 year-old male from Roxbury and charged all three with Armed Robbery.
RUNNING ONTO THE FIELD AT FENWAY NEVER A SMART MOVE
At about 9:56pm, on Saturday, May 3, 2008, officers, performing a paid detail at Fenway Park during the Boston Red Sox/Tampa Bay Rays game, were called to assist with a disturbance on the field. The suspect in this case jumped onto the playing surface after entering the field from an area near the right field box seats. The suspect jumped onto the playing surface while the game was in progress. Once on the field, suspect began running across the field. However, in short time, the wanna-be-ballplayer was run down and apprehended by Red Sox security and Boston Police detail officers. Officers arrested Greg Timmins, 37, of Tappan, New York and charged him with Disturbing the Peace. Any and all reports describing the aforementioned individual as a Yankees fan are, at this time, wholly unsubstantiated.
OPERATION PAWS (Proactive Warrant Service) LANDS 43 BEHIND BARS
Multi-Agency Effort Removes 43 Fugitives From City Streets Including One Suspect On The Lamb for 18 Years
On Friday, May 2, 2008, members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force and the Boston Police Fugitive & Apprehension Team, in collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police, US Marshall’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office, initiated Operation PAWS. The operation, a proactive warrant sweep, enabled officers to effect 43 arrests. The goal of Operation PAWS is to send a clear message to individuals involved in gang-related activities in neighborhoods throughout our city. By locating and arresting such individuals on outstanding warrants, the department also seeks to reduce gang violence and augment the level of intelligence necessary to prevent future gang-related hostilities.
Of the 43 arrests made, the arrest of Domingo Martinez, 39, of Boston, is especially note-worthy. Martinez, who was arrested in Roslindale, escaped from the Suffolk County House of Corrections some 18 years ago. A partial list of other arrestees is listed below.

“DON’T YOU GUYS HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO?”
At about 1:31am, on Friday, May 2, 2008, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) observed two individuals who appeared to be intoxicated walking in the area of Brighton and Harvard Avenues. When the individuals turned the corner, officers immediately heard several loud, crashing noises. Upon turning the corner, officers observed approximately eight newspaper boxes (the metal containers used to dispense newspapers/magazines) lying in the street. Additionally, one of the boxes was leaning against a motor vehicle. Upon closer inspection, officers were able to observe damage to the motor vehicle (scratches) resulting from the contact with the newspaper box. When officers approached the suspects, the suspects became verbally belligerent. When asked to explain their actions, one of the suspects stated, “Don’t you guys have anything better to do?” Instead of asking the same question of the suspects, officers instead arrested Ryan Buckley, 30, of Allston and Elie Whitney, 35, of Haverhill and charged both with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.
SCOOTER VANDAL ARRESTED DOWNTOWN
At about 1:50am, on Friday, May 2, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a breaking & entering in the area of 242 Cambridge Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated he heard a loud noise outside his window and when he looked to see what caused the noise, he saw an individual vandalizing his motor scooter. When the victim approached the suspect, the suspect fled on foot. As a result, the victim followed suspect on his scooter until police showed up on scene. When officers approached the suspect, the suspect became combative both physically and verbally. After a brief struggle, officers arrested David Cornish, 19, of Boston and charged him with Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property and Resisting Arrest
ARMED ROBBER ARRESTED IN ROXBURY
At about 7:50pm, on Thursday, May 1, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a robbery at 48 Edgewood Street. On arrival, officers located and spoke to the victim who stated that she was walking home when the suspect approached her, showed a weapon and demanded her cell phone and money. Officers soon located an individual matching the description of the suspect. While the suspect was being detained, the victim was brought to the scene so as to make a positive identification of the suspect. After the suspect was positively identified, officers arrested Markeem Bishop, 21, of Roxbury and charged him with Armed Robbery.
DEATH INVESTIGATION AT 19 OAKCREST ROAD
At about 7:10am, on Friday, May 2, 2008, officers from Area E-18 (Hyde Park) responded to a radio call for a man down in the area of 19 Oakcrest Road. On arrival, officers located a black male in his 20’s, lying down in front of the address, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced on the scene.

SIDEWALK SITTER ARRESTED DOWNTOWN
At about 2:40pm, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to 138 Tremont Street for a report of a citizen occupying the sidewalk with a folding chair and shopping cart. On arrival, officers observed a white male seated in a wooden director’s chair sitting next to a cart filled with religious paraphernalia. The suspect was handing out the paraphernalia while occupying the public sidewalk. Moreover, the suspect was displaying a sign with written statements criticizing and protesting the church located at the above-mentioned address. When officers asked the suspect to move along, the suspect refused. Officers then asked the suspect if he had a permit allowing him to occupy the sidewalk. When the suspect stated he did not, officers again advised the suspect to move along. When the suspect again refused, officers arrested Alan Nystedt, 55, of Haverhill and charged him with Disturbing the Peace and Occupying a City Sidewalk without a Permit.
CALL FOR SHOTS FIRED LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 10:36pm, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of 165 Walnut Avenue for a report of shots fired. On arrival, officers observed two males standing in the middle of the street. When officers approached the suspects, the suspects took off. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to locate one of the suspects. As officers were approaching the suspect, the suspect appeared to have been holding what could have been a firearm. At this point, officers ordered the suspect to put both of his hands in the air. After handcuffing the suspect, officers located a firearm in the suspect’s waist area. After seizing the firearm, officers arrested Lester Sabb, 57, of Roxbury and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition.
STUCK GAS PEDAL LEADS VAN INTO HOUSE
At about 7:00am, on Thursday, May 1, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a motor vehicle accident in the area of 130 Milton Avenue. On arrival, officers observed a gray Nissan van that appeared to have struck the residence at the above-mentioned address. Officers observed minor structural damage to the house, as well as, damage to a gutter drain and the lawn. When asked to explain the accident, the operator of the motor vehicle told officers that the gas pedal in the van got stuck. As a result of the gas pedal getting stuck, the operator states he lost control of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle also states that he was driving his daughter to school when the accident occurred. The daughter, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was treated on scene for minor bumps and bruises. Officers cited the operator of the motor vehicle For An Unrestrained Child (Child without a seat belt).
