DAILY INCIDENTS FOR FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2008

Car Thief Arrested by Strike Force
Yesterday, Thursday, February 28, 2008, officers from the Governor’s Auto Strike Force Strike Force (GATSF) arrested suspect, Gary S. Dyer, 46, of Boston and charged him with Receiving Stolen Property, Operating After Revocation and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
Officers initiated an investigation around 12:46pm when they observed a car that had been reported stolen the day before parked in front of 66 Fayston St. in Dorchester. Officers started surveillance on this vehicle and after a while observed the suspect approach the vehicle and enter the driver’s side door. The suspect then started the car using a screwdriver, exited the car and went to the trunk and started placing items from the trunk into a bag.
Officers then converged upon the suspect, and placed him under arrest. Officers recovered the car and noted damage to the car’s ignition, steering column, driver and passenger door locks, dashboard and the car’s radio was also missing.
Robbery Suspect Arrested After Claiming Guilt
At approximately 6:20pm, last night, officers from District D-14 (Allston and Brighton) responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress at the Shaw’s Supermarket located at 370 Western Avenue.
While en route, officers were updated with a description of the suspect along with his direction of flight. While searching the general area that he suspect had been said to be fleeing, officers observed an individual matching the suspect description on Lincoln St. near Litchfield Street. Officers stopped this individual and asked for the victim to be brought to their location for a possible identification of the suspect. Upon hearing the officers talking about the suspect being brought to his location, the suspect stated to officers, “That’s me! I’m the suspect. I took the lady’s wallet. It’s in my pocket.”
The victim was nevertheless transported to the suspect’s location where she positively identified the suspect. After being positively identified, officers recovered the victim’s wallet along with her personal papers from the suspect’s coat pocket.
The suspect, Daniel William Paul Turmelle, 19, of South Boston was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery and several outstanding warrants.
Hard Headed Student Ends Up in Jail
About 2:55am this morning, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to 3 Folsom St. in Mission Hill for a loud party.
On arrival, officers made note of about 30 people in the apartment and began trying to disperse the crowd. As officers dispersed the crowd, one particular partygoer began to make negative and disrespectful statements to the officers. Officers continued to try to disperse the crowd despite the noted individual’s comments. As officers were trying to discern amongst residents and guests at the party, they approached the suspect and asked him for identification. The suspect refused to provide any information to officers and told them that he knew his rights and did not have to provide identification. In an effort to continue their efforts of clearing the house of guests, officers asked the suspect to exit the apartment and leave.
Officers continued to clear the crowd from the apartment and as they were doing so, heard someone banging on the door. Officers responded to the door as the banging was getting louder and other occupants of the apartment building started complaining. At the door, officers observed the same suspect who they had dealt with inside. Officers, at the door, noted the suspect had a strong odor of alcohol on the his breath and when asked if he had been drinking, he answered affirmatively. Officers then told the suspect that if he did not stop banging on the door he would be placed under arrest for being a Disorderly Person. As officers were going back in the apartment, the suspect pushed the door striking the officers.
Officers then arrested suspect, George Lovin, 20, of Boston and charged him with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2008

WRONG WAY CABBIE ARRESTED FOR REFUSING TO PROVIDE A LICENSE
At about 4:35am, on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, officers from Area D-4 (South End) observed a motor vehicle, specifically a taxi, traveling the wrong way on a one-way street. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the car. When asked to produce a license and registration, the operator of the cab hit the steering wheel and muttered, “Come on.” When asked again, the operator refused to honor the officer’s request. At this point, officers advised the operator that his refusal to provide a license could lead to his arrest. After asking for a forth time, officers arrested Sabestine Onyeka, 35, of Brockton and charged him with Refusing to Submit to a Police Officer.
HOUSE BREAK IN JAMAICA PLAIN LANDS FOUR IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 11:40am, on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a residential alarm at 16 Bowditch Road in Jamaica Plain. On arrival, officers were able to hear an alarm emanating from 16 Bowditch Road. Officers spoke to a witness who stated, upon hearing the alarm, he looked out his window and observed a green Honda occupied by 3 to 4 males. Before the car drove off, the witness says he was able to read a part of the motor vehicle’s license plate. Officers quickly broadcast the information over Channel 4 of the police radio. While still on scene, officers inspected the home for signs of a break-in. In the back of the home, officers were able to observe an open window and a freshly cut screen. Officers also observed footprints, possibly two sets, in and around the window. A short time later, officers located and stopped a motor vehicle matching the one seen leaving the area. While speaking to the occupants of the motor vehicle, the witness was brought to the scene where he was able to positively identify the car and its occupants. Officers arrested Nilvio Baez, 17, of Milton, George Acosta, 17, of Mattapan, John Torres, 19, of Mattapan, Felix Torres, 22, of Everett and charged all four with Breaking & Entering a Residence (Daytime).
ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY SPELLS TROUBLE FOR TWO JUVENILES IN HYDE PARK
At about 1:23pm, on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, an individual entered the Area E-18 police station (Hyde Park) and told officers that he just been robbed. According to the victim, two black males approached him and said, “Give me your cell phone or you’re gonna get shot.” At this point, the victim says he fled and ran directly to the police station. Victim told officers that the incident took place at a bus stop in the area of 1300 River Street. Officers, accompanied by the victim, returned to the scene of the crime. Once on scene, the victim quickly spotted the suspects who attempted to rob him. Officers arrested a 16 year-old male from Hyde Park and a 15 year-old male from Dorchester and charged both with Attempted Armed Robbery.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2008

ONE LESS SHOPLIFTER TAKES A BITE OUT OF CRIME
At about 5:55pm, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a shoplifter at the Macy’s Department Store on Washington Street. On arrival, officers observed the suspect yelling profanities and threatening store employees. According to store employees, the suspect attempted to walk out of the store with a men’s suit. When employees tried to stop the suspect, the suspect attempted to punch and bite them. As officers approached the suspect, the suspect remained belligerent. After a brief struggle, officers arrested Augustine Andrews, 50, of Boston and charged him with Unarmed Assault, Larceny (over $250.00) and Disorderly Person.
A WALK IN THE PARK LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 12:02pm, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force observed an individual walking through Almont Park on Area B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester). Given the time of the day and the age of the individual, officers approached the suspect. When the suspect saw officers approaching, the suspect stopped quickly and clutched at something in the left pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. Due to training and education, officers immediately recognized the suspect’s actions to be consistent with someone attempting to conceal a firearm. A search of the suspect enabled officers to locate and seize a silver-colored firearm. Officers arrested Barkley Manuel, 17, of Mattapan and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY LANDS ONE BEHIND BARS
At about 4:10pm, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) were approached by a victim at the intersection of Rhoades and Blue Hill Avenue. The victim pointed across the street in the direction of 1156 Blue Hill Avenue where an individual was standing. According to the victim, the suspect had just robbed him. According to the victim, the suspect approached him holding a large white pipe in his hands and demanded his cell phone. When officers looked across the street, officers observed a black male holding a white pipe. As officers began to cross the street, the suspect began to run. After a short pursuit, officers were able to locate the suspect hiding behind a dumpster. After being positively identified by the victim, officers arrested a 16 year-old male from Dorchester and charged him with the Intent to Rob while Armed.

BOSTON POLICE FOLLOW TRAIL TO LOCATE MISSING PERSON

NICHOLAS SOVA FOUND
Thanks to the thorough and exhaustive work on behalf of Boston Police detectives, participating media outlets and concerned citizens, officers have located NICHOLAS SOVA.
On Friday, February 8, 2008, family members reported NICHOLAS SOVA missing from 97 Hillside Street in Roxbury. According to family members, the victim, a Northeastern University student, disappeared from his home on Monday, February 4, 2008. Family members told police he had not been seen or heard from since that date.
Boston Police detectives ran down several crucial leads, which enabled investigators to locate Mr. Sova in Paris, France. Mr. Sova has contacted his parents to inform them that he’s doing fine.
The Boston police Department would like to thank the media for their assistance and attention to this matter.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2008

ROUTINE CAR STOP LEADS TO GUN ARREST
At about 11:30pm, on Monday, February 25, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) observed a motor vehicle make an illegal left turn at the intersection of Epping and Washington Streets. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. When asked to produce a license and registration, the operator of the motor vehicle stated, “My mom rented it.” The operator then handed the rental agreement to the officer. Upon inspecting the rental agreement, officers discovered that the agreement listed the operator’s mother as the only authorized user. Furthermore, when officers checked to see if the operator had a license to operate, officers learned that the operator had no license. Officers then asked both occupants to exit the vehicle. While conducting a motor vehicle inventory search, officers discovered and seized a firearm. Upon discovering the firearm, the suspects attempted to flee. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend one of the suspects. Officers arrested Clarence McGregor, 19, of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. The other suspect was able to make good his escape.
UNARMED ROBBERY LANDS TWO JUVENILES IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 6:31pm, on Monday, February 25, 2008, officers from Area E-18 (Hyde Park) responded to radio call for a fight in the area of 35 Harvard Avenue. On arrival, officers observed four black males running from the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend and detain two of the four suspects. As officers were questioning the suspects, the victim was brought to the scene. Once on scene, the victim was able to positively identify the suspects. According to the victim, the suspects surrounded him, pushed him to the ground and demanded money. The victim also stated that one of the suspects punched and kicked. Officers observed red marks on the victim’s face. Officers arrested a 13 year-old male from Hyde Park and a 14 year-old male from Mattapan and charged both with Unarmed Robbery and Assault & Battery.
