Boston Police Pedal 55 Miles In Memory of Fallen Officer

WHO: Boston Police Superintendent John Gallagher; members of the Centurion Cycling Club and members of the New Hampshire Police Department

WHAT: The ride will be held on Monday, May 21, 2007 and will tentatively leave the Industrial Marine Park in South Boston at 10:00 AM. Riders will make their way up Summer Street to Atlantic Avenue to Commercial Street and into Charlestown where they'll follow Route 28 the entire 55-mile distance to Manchester, NH. The Manchester Police will greet us upon arrival at their headquarters. A ceremony will take place during which MPD will rename their Police Athletic League building in honor of Officer Briggs and the cycling group will present a check to members of Officer Briggs’ family.

WHY: The 55-mile bicycle ride from Boston to Manchester will honor the memory of Officer Michael Briggs. The ride will also provide an opportunity to raise funds to benefit Officer Briggs' family.

Officer Briggs, a bicycle unit officer with Manchester PD, died on October 17, 2006 after sustaining a gunshot wound in the line of duty. He was a police officer with Manchester PD for 11 years and was a US Marine Corps veteran.
