DEATH INVESTIGATION AT 63 ARMANDINE STREET

At approximately 9:08pm last night, officers from District 3 responded to a radio call for a person shot at 63 Armandine Street in Dorchester.
On arrival, officers located the victim, a black male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced on scene by Emergency Medical Technicians, and the body recovered by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Boston Police Homicide Unit is currently investigating this incident and we urge anyone with information relevant to this incident to contact the Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470 or remain anonymous by calling the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 1-800-494-TIPS.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR FEBRUARY 28, 2007

Officers One Step Ahead of Robbery Suspect
This morning, officers from District 4 arrested a 16 year old juvenile suspect from Boston and charged him with Armed Robbery.
At approximately 12:41am officers were dispatched to 30 Rutland St. for a robbery in progress. At the time of the broadcast, officers in the area were already speaking to the suspect. While officers were engaged in conversation with the suspect, a description of the suspect involved in the robbery was broadcast and the suspect hearing the broadcast attempted to flee. Officers, having made note of the match between the broadcast description and the individual that they were talking to, pursued, caught and detained the suspect for further investigation. The suspect was shortly thereafter positively identified by the victim. The victim reported that he was making a food delivery when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect, acting as if armed, then demanded of the victim his money.
B&E Suspect Caught in the Act
About 1:21am today, officers from District 7 were on patrol in the area of Liverpool St. and Central Square when they observed an individual bent over in the open car door of a parked car rummaging through its contents. Officers’ attention was drawn to this individual due to the increased occurrence of breaks into cars in this area. Officers stopped this individual and conducted an investigation into his activities. Based on that investigation, officers arrested suspect, Eduardo Ramirez, 26, of Chelsea and charged him with Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle.
Suspect Arrested for Possession of a Firearm After Traffic Offense
At approximately 2:12am this morning, officers from District 2 conducted a traffic stop of car at Blue Hill Ave. and Nazing St. after observing the car commit several traffic violations. The operator, once stopped, handed the officer his license and refused to answer any further questions by officers stating that he preferred to have his lawyer present. Officers, for their safety, asked the operator if he had any weapons and he replied affirmatively that he had a firearm. Officers subsequently secured the firearm and determined that the operator also had a baton and a container of mace/pepper spray on his person. The suspect provided officers with a license to carry a firearm in Utah but did not have a license to carry in Massachusetts. Suspect, Umesh S. Heendeniya, 36, of Salt Lake City, UT was arrested and charged with Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

DAILY INCIDENTS FOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2006

Food Delivery Driver Robbed and Assaulted
Yesterday at 4:33pm, officers in District 11 responded to a radio call for a robbery at 32 Longfellow Street. On arrival officers spoke with the victim who stated Sun Pizza received a call for a large order and when he arrived at the scene he called the phone number that was given and the person who answered the phone stated the address was 32 Longfellow Street. The victim stated he was flagged over by a tall black male who was standing in front of 32 Longfellow Street holding the door open. When the victim arrived in front of 32 Longfellow St. and was pulling out money for payment exchange, he stated the tall black male punched him once in the face causing him to fall onto the deck. He was robbed of his food and cash. He also stated that a physical altercation ensued and was confronted by two other suspects. The victim refused medical attention.
Shrimp Thief Nabbed Outside Supermarket
Yesterday, around 5:15 pm, District 4 officers responded to a radio call at Shaw’s supermarket at 53 Huntington Ave. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) for the supermarket who stated that he had observed a suspect, via closed circuit television, put some shrimp in a shopping cart, and proceed to walk around the store before putting the shrimp down the sleeves of his coat and then proceeding out the door. The suspect, Jonathan K. Bartie, 48, of Boston, was apprehended outside the store and brought back to the LPO, who recovered 4 bags of shrimp. He is being charged with Shoplifting.
Two Busted For Gun and Drugs
Yesterday around 9:15 pm, in District 2 Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, and State Police were patrolling the area. They observed two individuals standing in the area in front of 72 Dabney St. Suspect #1 was holding what appeared to be a medium sized bottle of liquor, and suspect #2 was observed to be smoking. The officers turned on the lights of the vehicle, and exited, approaching the suspects. The suspects ran towards the entrance to 76 Dabney St. Suspect #1 was observed dropping a half full bottle of brandy. The officers also smelled a strong odor of freshly burnt marijuana in the air. One of the officers grabbed the suspects as they attempted to escape into the building, and was met with physical resistance from both. Suspect #1 managed to escape into the building and was pursued into the living room of the apartment. The officers observed the suspect placing an object on the couch, and blocking the object from view. Fearing that the suspect had now concealed a weapon, the officers drew their weapons and ordered the suspect to show him his hands. The officers repeatedly had to order him to keep his hands in plain sight. On the couch, officers observed a black firearm and an open plastic bag containing smaller bags filled with what officers believed to be marijuana. In the snow, near where suspect #2 was apprehended, lay a black firearm. Kenji Handsom, 26, and Leon Edmonds, 28, both of Roxbury, were both arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. The firearms and drugs were recovered from the suspects.

Car Accident Involves Police Department Vehicle

Today at 12:06pm, officers from District 3 responded to the area of American Legion Highway and Walk Hill Street to assist an officer, who was pursuing a stolen motor vehicle. Officers initiated a stop of the suspect vehicle as it turned right onto Walk Hill Street. In an effort to bring the suspect vehicle to a stop, officers strategically placed a marked cruiser in front of the suspect vehicle while a second cruiser followed directly behind the vehicle.
As officers approached, they instructed the operator to shut off the car and exit the vehicle. The suspect ignored the officer’s verbal commands and placed the vehicle in reverse, accelerated backwards and struck a police department vehicle. The suspect continued to accelerate in reverse pushing the police cruiser while with the officer remained in the driver’s seat. The suspect then placed the vehicle in drive and fled.
Officers lost site of the vehicle, but soon observed it at the intersection of Walk Hill Street and Wenham Street, where it had collided with a dump truck. The accident occurred when the suspect vehicle reportedly attempted to maneuver between a dump truck and another vehicle. The collision caused the other vehicle to strike several parked cars on Walk Hill Street.
The occupants of the dump truck were not injured. A police officer was treated and released from a local area hospital. Two other victims were transported to Faulkner Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Boston Police will seek criminal complaints against the suspect in court.

Daily Incidents For February 26, 2007

Assault by means of Firearm Lands two in Jail
Yesterday around 2:36pm, officers in District 3 responded to a radio call for a person with a gun at 200 Talbot Avenue. Officers were informed that two of the suspects fled towards New England Avenue and the other two fled towards Norwell Street. A description of the suspect was broadcasted as four Hispanics males wearing black jackets with orange lining and blue jeans. The first victim stated to officers that she observed four Hispanic males looking into her vehicle. The victim went on to state that she heard a noise she believed to be a window smashing. The victim stated she went outside and told the suspects that she was going to call the police at that time the suspects began walking away. The second victim began following the suspects at which point one of the suspects reached into his waistband and pulled out what he believed to be a firearm. Both victims for fear of their safety took a step back at which time the suspects fled in separate directions. Officers observed two suspects fitting the description at Torrey and Wentworth Streets. The victims were able to positively identify the two suspects. Giovanny Acevedo, 18, and Wilden Suazo, 19, both of Mattapan were arrested and charged with Attempted Breaking and Entering motor Vehicle, Buying Receiving or Concealing Stolen Goods, Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon. Mr. Suazo was also charged with Possession of Burglarious Tools. Officers did recover several car radios, navigation system and a screwdriver from the suspects.
Two Arrested After Shop Lifting Spree
Yesterday around 5:21pm, officers in District 4 responded to a radio call shoplifting in progress at 53 Huntington Avenue. On arrival officers spoke with Shaw’s security personnel, who stated that the two suspects hid sixty-seven dollars worth of merchandise in their personal bags. Alexandra Tavares, 19 and Kristen Lewis, 18, both of the North End were arrested and charged with Shoplifting and Buying, Receiving or Concealing Stolen Goods. Officers also recovered other merchandise from various stores.
Suspect Nabbed for Grabbing Cash
This morning around 1:30am, officers in District 1 responded to a radio call for a robbery at 8 Park Plaza. A description of the suspect was broadcasted as a black male wearing a black leather jacket with blue jeans just stole money from the store clerk. Officers searched the area and located two suspects fitting the description walking on Lagrange Street by Tamworth Street. The clerk stated to officers that the suspect grabbed the money from his hand, as he was about to give a customer his change. The suspect ran out of the store with the money towards Tremont Street. The victim positively identified the suspect. Timothy Taylor, 35, of Boston was arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery, Resisting Arrest

Five Suspects Arrested for Dealing Drugs Across from District 4 Police Station

After numerous complaints from residents and community leaders about drug dealing in the Cathedral Housing Project, the Area D Drug Unit initiated an investigation that resulted in a search warrant being issued for 37 Monsignor Reynolds Way, Apt. #237 in the South End.
Yesterday about 8:00pm, officers from the Area D Drug Unit, armed with a search warrant, set up surveillance on the target location prior to executing the search warrant. During surveillance, officers observed a drug transactions take place and confirmed it by stopping the individual. That individual was stopped, and the purchased drugs recovered. He will be summonsed in to court. As officers continued their surveillance, focusing primarily on the individuals selling drugs, they again observed the same individual that had sold drugs to the individual going back to 37 Monsignor Reynolds Way.
Having observed this transaction, and the manner in which these individuals were operating, officers strategically placed themselves in position and made a peaceful entry into the apartment designated in the search warrant. Pursuant to a search of the apartment, officers recovered a substantial amount of crack cocaine, some heroin and a small quantity of marijuana. Officers also seized some currency, a cell phone, various drug paraphernalia, and items consistent with drug dealing.
The below noted suspects were arrested and charged with Possession of Class B, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B within 1,000’ of a School Zone.

2. Corey Cornelius, 35, of Roxbury
3. Holly A. Lafferty, 18, Homeless
4. Theresa Miles, 44, of Boston
5. Jacqueline Gilbert, 38, of Boston
In addition to the above individuals being charged in connection with this drug operation, three other individuals were summonsed to court in relation to possession of drugs. These individuals will be appearing at Boston Municipal Court on Monday 2/26/07.
