On December 5, 2006 at about 9:39pm, officers from District 11 responded to 91 Florida Street on a report of a person shot. On arrival, the officers located two people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Myles J. Lawton, 62, of Dorchester was pronounced and the second victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of investigation conducted by Boston Police homicide detectives, investigators identified Michael Collins as a homicide suspect and were granted an arrest warrant from Dorchester District Court on yesterday’s date charging Collins with the Murder of Myles J. Lawton.

The Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force Warrant Apprehension Team and the United States Marshall’s Service have lead the apprehension efforts since the warrant was issued. Those efforts have resulted in the arrest of Michael Collins, 27, in the District of Columbia, by U. S. Marshall’s and the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police this morning. Collins will be arraigned in the District of Columbia, charged as being a Fugitive from Justice and returned to Boston at a future date. The D.C. Metropolitan Police continue to assist the Boston Police Homicide Detectives in the ongoing investigation. When Collins returns to Boston he will be charged with Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, and Armed Robbery.
