Today is the anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Boston Police Officer Roy J. Sergei .

On this date in 1987, Sergeant Sergei died for his wounds three weeks after being shot while stopping a suspicious person in a Back Bay alley. On this day we remember Sergeant Sergei’s sacrifice, as we honor the memory of all other Boston Police officers who gave their lives to protect their fellow citizens.
